History of the 4th of July Art Show

This incredible show was started in the 1960s and was run by a handful of volunteers.  It grew in size for many years.

At one point, the Old Mission, for unknown reasons ended the tradition and the show was moved to a beautiful home nearby and the show became known as The Alternative Site Art Show.   The Alternative Site Art Show was a great success for many many years by show producer Janette .  However, in 2016 the owners of the home decided it was time to retire the show.

In 2017, in addition to the homeowners retiring the show, the producer wanted to move into another phase in her life and passed the torch to Susan Margaret and Jennifer Pacella.   They approached the subject to the staff of The Old Mission and the decision was made and the show was reborn again to it's original location... the front lawn of The Mission.

Jennifer and Susan ran a highly successful retail shop for over 10 years in Santa Barbara, and upon retiring from their retail shop were looking for other venues to become involved within the community.

"We are very proud to bring the show back to the original location" says Susan.  "It means a lot to the local artist community, it has a lot of nostalgia, and it's bigger and better than ever"!

"2017 was a GREAT show.  We introduced food and drink vendors along with live strolling music.  It made for a great afternoon".  "Our artists were very successful financially and 2018 is shaping up to be even better".
